Mooska (2024)

12 min   | Language - Estonian with English Subtitles | Filmmakers: Samuel Aarnio

About the Film

The Võromaa smoke sauna tradition from Estonia is a recognized healing practice on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The ritual combines medicinal herbs, rhythmic drumming, and chanting to provide physical and emotional cleansing. The process involves using herbs from the Estonian countryside, and the sauna's heat helps the body release toxins and negative energy. The ritual is a holistic healing practice that aims to clear trauma, and people often feel rejuvenated and at peace afterward. An example of this tradition is a healing session at the Mooska farm, where a group of friends supported one of their friends recovering from a difficult relationship.
