The Film

A film about silence, memory, and the world we are losing
At its heart, Listen is a film about two forms of disappearance happening at once — and the quiet act of bearing witness to both. Set against the vast, protected wilderness of Alaska, the film follows Hank Lentfer, a field recordist who has devoted his life to capturing the sounds of the natural world. As Lentfer tends to his mother in the final stages of dementia, he confronts a profound parallel: just as her voice grows distant, so too does the wilderness around him fall silent.
Through long, immersive takes and minimal narration, Listen becomes something rare — a film you experience as much as you watch.
Director Taliesin Black-Brown crafted the film as a sensory immersion — one that asks viewers to slow down, open their ears, and sit with difficulty and beauty in the same breath. It is a tender, unhurried portrait of love, caregiving, and what it means to truly pay attention to a world in the midst of change.
Listen runs 14 minutes and is presented in English. It was produced by Bray's Run Productions LLC, and is the World Premiere at Tribeca.
The Festival

About the Tribeca Film Festival
Founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in the wake of the September 11 attacks, the Tribeca Film Festival was created as a catalyst for the cultural and economic revitalization of lower Manhattan. It quickly grew into one of the most significant film festivals in the world — a stage for independent voices, international cinema, and emerging storytellers of every kind.
Over more than two decades, Tribeca has championed independent cinema and bold documentary storytelling, premiering films that go on to shape the cultural conversation far beyond New York. The festival is known for its commitment to work that takes risks — films that are formally inventive, emotionally demanding, and rooted in genuine human experience. Selection to Tribeca is a mark of distinction recognized across the industry.
The 2026 edition runs June 3–14 across venues throughout New York City, with Listen appearing in the Shorts program on June 7th and June 13th.
